When Life Changes Instantly: Why I Left Europe and Came Back to Australia

Life can change in an instant.

One minute, I was travelling through Europe, living van life, chasing sunshine and stories…
and the next, everything stopped.

I’m not in Europe anymore.
I’m back in Australia.
And this post is the story of why.

A Sudden Change of Plans

I started this journey in Sydney — not exactly where I expected to be.

I’d been travelling through Europe for 10 incredible months, sharing van life adventures, exploring places I’d dreamed about for years.

But then I got the call.

A family emergency meant I needed to come home — quickly.

From there, I began the long drive north toward Far North Queensland… not in my van, but in my car, trying to process what had just happened.

Why I Disappeared

If you’ve been following along, you might have noticed I stopped posting videos.

This is why.

Life doesn’t always give you warning. And sometimes, everything shifts all at once.

I feel incredibly lucky to have had those 10 months travelling — because moments like this remind you just how important it is to do the things you love when you can.

Family Comes First

The hardest part of all of this is that my mum is very sick.

I’ve come back to be with her and to help through end-of-life care.

There’s no easy way to say that.

It’s been emotional, exhausting, and honestly… life-changing.

Letting Go of Van Life (For Now)

One of the biggest decisions I had to make was selling my van — Kenny.

Kenny wasn’t just a vehicle. He was home. Freedom. Adventure.

But being on the other side of the world meant I had to let him go.

He’s now out there somewhere in Europe with a new family, continuing the journey — which feels both strange and kind of comforting.

Big Life Changes (All at Once)

It hasn’t just been one thing. It’s been everything.

  • Coming back to Australia unexpectedly
  • Supporting my mum through a really difficult time
  • Selling my van
  • Cleaning out and renting my house
  • Trying to figure out finances and logistics
  • And navigating the end of a long-term relationship

That last one has been particularly hard, and it’s made everything else feel even more uncertain.

Right now, I don’t fully know what comes next.

A New Direction (And a Bus 🚐)

But in the middle of all of this… something unexpected happened.

I bought a bus.

A Toyota Coaster, to be exact.

Because apparently, when life gets chaotic, my solution is still:
👉 “Let’s build something and go travelling again.”

It needs work. There’s a lot to figure out.
But it’s also something to look forward to — a new project, a new chapter.

Finding Small Moments Along the Way

The drive north hasn’t just been heavy.

There have been small, very Australian moments too:

  • Giant roadside attractions
  • Random stops for fresh seafood
  • Long stretches of open road
  • The kind of quiet that gives you space to think

Those little things have helped more than I expected.

What Happens Next?

Honestly… I’m not entirely sure yet.

There will be:

  • More Europe videos (I still have so much footage to share)
  • Van life builds with the Coaster
  • Travel around Australia
  • And whatever this next chapter turns into

Some parts — like the Greece videos — are a bit harder to revisit right now.
But I’ll get there.

A Bit of Perspective

If there’s one thing this experience has reinforced, it’s this:

Don’t wait.

Do the things you want to do.
Take the trips.
Make the changes.

Because you never really know what’s coming next.

Thank You

If you’ve been watching, reading, or following along — thank you.

Your support genuinely means a lot, especially right now.

And if you’ve got thoughts on what you’d like to see next, I’d love to hear them.
